DUBRAVKA CORE REGENERATION
PUBLIC SPACE RE-DESIGN • BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA
Expansive developments of the 20th century created a sharp contrast between the rural agglomerations on the outskirts of Bratislava and the mass housing structure growing around and absorbing them. The central areas of the villages have lost their functionality as nodes and have since deteriorated and serve predominantly as a bus stop and disorganized parking lots.
The urban design project regenerates the core of the (originally) permicultural village and now a mass housing estate Dubravka. It focuses on dealing with irregular topography and integrated traffic by introducing new spatial hierarchies. Definition of the roads and narrowing down the area dedicated to the traffic combined with decelerating pavement creates a new functional arrangement allowing the elevation of the pedestrian zones and converted areas.
